Does Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation Have A PTSD Focus Group?

AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation (TXOG), Texas’ leading medical cannabis provider, announced it created a focus group for patients, including veterans, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 1535 on Sept. 1, 2021, approving PTSD, a condition veterans may experience from their military service, as a qualifying condition for medical cannabis under the Texas Compassionate Use Program (CUP).

Since the CUP’s expansion, TXOG’s patient base has grown with the company serving more PTSD patients every day. To best understand how medical cannabis can serve Texans suffering from PTSD, the company assembled a focus group of patients in collaboration with David Bass, a TXOG patient, United States Army veteran and founder of Texas Veterans for Medical Marijuana. Many of the group’s participants are also veterans like Bass and will help inform TXOG’s approach in providing the highest-quality medical cannabis to its expanding patient base.

“As a veteran overcoming my own PTSD and advocating for medical cannabis reform, I know how important it is for Texas’ PTSD community to have a voice and actually be heard,” said Bass. “The TXOG team is bringing the right people together to not only provide life-changing medicine, but incredible support by forming this focus group and giving us a forum to discuss our experiences. I’m proud we’re working together to create the best possible products—and crucial alternatives to dangerous opioids—to serve veterans and those suffering from PTSD throughout the state of Texas.”

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Center for PTSD, about 60% of men and 50% of women experience a traumatic event during their lifetime. Veterans returning from military service may suffer from nightmares or flashbacks potentially leading to depression, substance abuse or anxiety as noted by Mental Health Texas. Medical cannabis offers a natural, safe alternative to addictive and harmful PTSD coping mechanisms veterans may turn to for relief.

“Since the beginning, TXOG has gathered input from the medical community and patients to effectively bring our products to market,” said Morris Denton, CEO of TXOG. “Ongoing patient feedback is critical to creating the highest quality medicine. We’re grateful to collaborate with Texas veterans, tapping into their knowledge to learn from their experiences. We’re honored to work with veterans like David, who are true advocates for the power of the plant, to develop the highest quality products for our patients.”

TXOG’s gummies, tincture and lozenge products are available for statewide delivery at www.texasoriginal.com, at their dispensary in Austin, Texas, and through the company’s convenient patient pick-up locations in North Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.
